The degree requirements include course work in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services, environmental health, and social and behavioral sciences, as well as a practicum experience in a public health agency; and completion of a research-based master's thesis. The PhD program in Epidemiology includes a series of courses in epidemiologic methods and biostatistics, and electives. The MPH Student Handbook describes the department's academic requirements and policies. Beginning in the Fall of 2020 the MPH programs in all UW School of Public Health departments will introduce a new common core curriculum.
These new common core courses , effective in the fall of 2020 and totaling 23 credits, will expose students to diverse perspectives of public health, rigorous training and exciting field opportunities.
Epidemiology MPH (48 credits) All students enrolled in the MPH program take a common set of core classes. The doctoral program in Epidemiology is intended to produce future academicians, highly qualified as independent investigators and teachers, and well-trained practitioners of epidemiology. The core curriculum consists of at least 20 credit hours, including at least three credits Field Experience and a two-credit capstone seminar. The program includes coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics, and also requires the development and execution of an independent dissertation research project.
