This week Richard Emblin unpacks Jesus' words "Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted."

The first is the kind that has lost hope, that has become distrustful of love and Truth.

Grief is a place of total emptiness.

In the Greek, the word for comforted has three meanings: 1) to be consoled 2) to find an ally or helper 3) to exhort or encourage. (V.3, 4) Those that are poor in spirit are often in mourning. We are considering the second Beatitude today. Shower Your comfort on me through those around me, and keep far from me those whose words and actions are no comfort.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. "Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted."

This eats away and destroys man from within.
