Bay Area Bike Rides is provided as a free resource for Bay Area cyclists and visitors. I started the site back in the mid-90s (before the Internet Archive existed) when I was trying to encourage friends to get out and ride more.
I get my daughters to work out which way we’re going or I ask them to point features on the map which we may find in the landscape (e.g.
a bridge, a phonebox, farms etc.). When we’re out and about on our family bike rides, I tend to make colour copies of the map of the area we’re covering. Between you, you’ll decide how often you cycle, where to go and how far to ride. By creating an account and registering to participate in AXA Community Bike Rides, I declare that I am over 18 years of age, medically fit and able to complete in such activities within the time limit and parameters specified within the rides I select (and/or lead) and do so totally and absolutely at my own individual risk. The site is, and will always be, advertising-free. As you grow more confident you’ll have the option to meet other participants and go for rides in groups of up to four people. BIKE EVENTS.
Last week I posted my dad’s lockdown project which was a replica of the first pedal bike from the 1830s. As the coronavirus pandemic continues, your best socially-distanced recreational opportunity might be in your own neighborhood.
To start off with, you’ll meet one-to-one. • Enjoy sociable bike rides with someone from your local area. We are happy to announce the reopening of bookings for our 2020 rides - more dates to be confirmed so check individual ride pages for updates. Some of you wanted to see it in action so here’s my dad taking it out for a spin! The pandemic has given bike rides new momentum. Several events have been rescheduled from earlier in the year and if you registered for these then your place will be automatically transferred to the new date - please see the individual ride pages for details.
