The U.S. Marine Corps suffered enormous casualties during the Pacific campaigns of World War II. On 1 September 1937, the name of the 9th disappeared again from the Marine Corps' muster rolls, when all of its men were transferred to the 9th Reserve District, Great Lakes, Illinois. It all started back in 1984 when I made my first trip to "The Wall."
